Way Off Broadway (WOB), Iowa’s only professional musical theatre and Resident Company at the Stephen Sondheim Center for the Performing Arts In Fairfield, Iowa now presents Eva Turner; Legacy, a combined workshop musical co-produced by WOB and Bair Opera Company from Los Angeles.
More than simply an evening about a singer and her music, this interesting two person play revolves around the May/ December relationship of Eva Turner and her vocal coach Albert Richard Broad or “Plum” as he was known by his friends.
A "Dramatic Soprano" just like her character, L.A. based opera singer Kimber-ly Harris plays the title role of Eva, singing choice selections from The Diva's own repertory. "Plum" is played by Steve White, founder of Fairfield’s Shakes-peare Ensemble and a graduate of the Trinity Repertory Theatre Conservatory in Providence, and the British- American Acting Academy in London.
Randal K West, Artistic Director of WOB and the Director of this workshop states that” WOB has a commitment to developing new musical works of all kinds: Eva Turner; Legacy features some of the richest, most dramatic opera arias of all time including works by Puccini, and Wagner. It explores how a talented person built her musical legacy through a lifetime of unflinching commitment to both her work and to another person.
WOB will be workshopping and producing Eva Turner; Legacy in a fully mounted production with a multimedia package with a score arranged and orchestrated for piano and string quartet by Justin Hill. General admission to this world premiere production will be only $18. It is a show for lovers of both good theatre, and good opera.
Eva Turner; Legacy will play Friday October 14 at 7:30pm with a 2:00pm matinee Sunday October 16th. The second weekend will play Friday and Saturday the 21 & 22nd at 7:30pm and close at 2:00pm on Sunday October 23rd .Take advantage of this opportunity to see a new musical in its first workshop at a reduced admission price.
